Daily Time Management

In our everyday life, we relate to time in most things we do. Difficulties with time processing may lead to problems managing time in everyday life i.e. problems with daily time management. Daily time management answers questions like: When? For how long? What time?

Research shows that many children and adolescents with various disabilities such as ADHD, autism, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and intellectual disability can have limited time processing ability. This may lead to problems in daily time management including difficulties in handling daily routines, conflict-filled morning and evening routines or a lack of circadian rhythm. It might also lead to difficulties in knowing for how long an activity lasts, starting and completing activities, estimating time, adjusting to time demands and managing time duringthe day, week and month.

Today, there are evaluated methods for reliable assessment of time processing ability and daily time management, as well as methods for improving daily time management. A prerequisite for improving a person’s daily time management is that the person and / or surrounding people have knowledge of time processing ability and of how impaired time processing ability might affect our ability to manage time in everyday life. Many studies show that time assistive products can increase time management in everyday life. There are also methods for training time processing ability and daily time management for children, adolescents and adults. Knowledge of these methods can be provided within our lectures and courses. Please see the bibliography below for more information.

Intervention to improve time processing ability and daily time management can be provided by trained professionals, for example by trained KaTid® raters.
